Ingredients:
– 1 pound large shell pasta
– 1 pound lean ground beef
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 1 small yellow onion, diced
– 1 small green bell pepper, diced
– 6 ounces pepperoni, quartered
– 2 cups marinara sauce
– 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
– 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
– 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
– 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions:
1. Cook the pasta according to the package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside (do not rinse).
2. In a large cast-iron skillet, add the ground beef. Cook over medium-high heat until a deep brown crust forms before breaking the beef apart. Continue to cook until about 50% of the beef is deeply browned.
3. Remove the ground beef from the skillet, leaving the fat behind. Add butter to the skillet along with the diced onions and bell peppers. Allow to brown for 1-2 minutes, stir, and then let them brown for another 1-2 minutes.
4. Return the beef to the skillet. Stir in the marinara sauce, quartered pepperoni, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook the mixture until it is mostly thickened, with about 75% of it being above liquid, which should take about 3-5 minutes.
5. Add the cooked pasta back into the skillet and gently mix everything together.
6. Turn off the heat, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pasta, and stir until the cheese is melted and the mixture is creamy and combined.
7. Serve the Pepperoni Pizza Hamburger Helper immediately, while hot and cheesy.
