Ingredients

– 1 teaspoon salt
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup buttermilk
– ½ cup vegetable oil
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 1 cup hot water

*For the Salted Caramel Filling:*
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
– ½ cup heavy cream
– 1 teaspoon sea salt

*For the Chocolate Ganache:*
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
– 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

*Additional toppings:*
– Sea salt flakes
– Caramel sauce


Instructions

**To make the Chocolate Cake:**
1. 🍰 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
4. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

**To make the Salted Caramel Filling:**
1. 🍯 In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar, stirring constantly until it turns amber in color.
2. Add the butter and stir until it’s fully melted.
3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Be cautious, as it may bubble up.

**To make the Chocolate Ganache:**
1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chopped chocolate with the heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Add the butter and stir until fully incorporated.
